Why aren't we allowed to ask about Barack Obama's colleagues?

When asked about his ties to radical anti-Americans, Obama shrugs them off as "distractions" and "politics of fear". Why aren't we allowed to ask questions about the cohorts of a no-name selected candidate with insufficient experience to lead our country?
